The Bearable Christmas Music Cover Series

BCMC Series for short.

For the next 21 days (countdown, aww yeah), I’m gonna see how many Christmas covers I can find that don’t make me want to punch a reindeer. Then I’m gonna share them with you. So, if “Holly Jolly Christmas” makes you wish for a silent night and all you want for Christmas is for someone to smash the jingle bells, then Feliz Navidad, this is my gift to you.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

A little Beyonce…I had to do it, just couldn’t get it out of my head!

Gabe Bondoc, you’re my favorite mood-lifter always.

Finished a song!

I’ve got a good song! Like a hey music major friend listen to this and critique it, yea it’s really good, change this and it’ll be awesome, i wish we had strings and synthesizers to play with, heart-wrenching deep kind of good.

Now I have to perfect it. Which could take longer than writing it….soo yeah :)

I’m digging this one a lot.

Let’s have a talk about Gavin Degraw being beautifully magnificent.

This new CD is something else. I’ve listened to it at least three times in the last three days, and it’s great. Short, clever songs are my favorites, for reals. Also, many of his songs sound similar, but it’s a recognizable sound with individual great qualities.

Seriously though, I’m in love.

Highlights: Not Over You, Run Every Time, Stealing, Radiation, Where I’m At, Where You Are

That’s six of the ten songs. And the other four aren’t even bad.

So, yea, you should listen. Ok.

Melissa Polinar and David Ryan Harris wrote a song together. Soo, obviously I’m bout to replay it into the ground for at least two weeks. Ok cool.

“Lion” - Gabe Bondoc cover

And then there’s this one. Soo much more reason for this one.

The night before and day of graduation, I listened to this song at least 50 times. Then it was stuck in my head anytime I wasn’t listening to it.

What better time to record it than now? I’ve come a long way, but staring down the next year, I know my growing, my challenges, my lessons are nowhere near done. But, I’m on my way. And I’m changing, getting stronger with every step.

Hope you enjoy.

“Whether or Not” - Gabe Bondoc

This is the 1st of two covers today, both Gabe Bondoc. Don’t ask why, cause I don’t know.

But, this one in particular? Because I remembered I could play it and just wanted to.

Also, it was the 1st song I ever sang while playing guitar in public. It went over well. Hope you enjoy!

@2:58 - “Uncharted”. On some video of her live, Sara Bareilles described this song as “a song about being scared s***less about the future”…mm, no more needs to be said.

Requested by Steph Hart. Hope you enjoy!

“Turning Tables” - Adele Cover

I don’t think this counts as my weekly submission…buutttt I really wanted to do this when I realized how well I knew it today. Random, I know. Hope you enjoy!

“Where I Belong” - Original This isn’t going to stay up very long.

Some days, it bugs me that I’m such a wanderer. I’m always trying to get somewhere new, to see if it’s somewhere I can stay. It seems like this song should be about graduating and leaving Syracuse, but it’s really about packing and leaving any place I go and build relationships. Because a day always comes when it has to end. And it never hurts any less when down the road, I look back, and see that somebody has found a home there, and I’m still floating.

I’m ready to get home. But, it’s not happening any time soon.

Ah well. Hope you enjoy.

“You’re It” - Gabe Bondoc/Ramiele Malubay COVER

Gabe Bondoc is awesome. We’ve already been over this. He has so much passion and it comes out so smoothly ALL OF THE TIME (even when he slipped up @ Skinatics last week lol).

I finally found another of his songs that I could play relatively successfully (I learned Whether or Not last year)…not a fan of my guitar work, cause it just doesn’t compare in any way, but I like this one. Hope you enjoy!

If I could do this all day everyday with different people in different places…

“Gravity” - Sara Bareilles Cover (in the Dark)

I think I just almost fainted. I’ve been in love with this song since the 1st time I heard it (which was actually a cover)…and I’ve tried covering it soo many times! But every time, I just felt like I couldn’t find the same thing that Sara has on the piano in my guitar. But tonight, my guitar’s in Hendricks and I was flipping through all these random songs like “Maybe I’ll try something A Capella”…

Uh, didn’t expect to end up on this one. But since I decided on it, I also said, “Forget facial expressions, forget appealing to the camera, I’m just going to try singing this straight up.” Hence, the darkness. Even in the darkness, the nerves had my heart racing…but, also, I figured you could multi-task much easier if you didn’t have to watch me…always thinking of your best interest. Anyway, that was hard, but it felt good. Hope you enjoy!

All I have to say about this is Natasha Bedingfield is amazing. I like her whole new album and had almost all of them on repeat last week. But this one is just amazing. It’s such a “I couldn’t care less what you think” kinda song in the most positive way possible. If you’ve never heard it, go listen to the original and the Less is More version. You’ll be happy you did.

I definitely didn’t do it justice, but it was the most fun I’ve had covering a song since I started this project. And I think it made my week…I hope you enjoy!
